Now, I'd like to announce our new school project. You will be graded for this, of course, but most of all it is a learning experience. All the practical knowledge you gain may very well be put to use in the future. You see...

[She reaches down to pick up a small basket, placing it on the desk before her. What's inside the basket, you wonder? It's eggs. A lot of them. They aren't boiled or anything of the sort.]

For an entire week, you all will be proud parents. These [she indicates the eggs again.] will be your frail, loved children. You may name them, dress them or even try to feed them. As long as your child is still in one piece next Thursday, you pass the project. Of course, one can never become a parent on their own, which is why I've taken the liberty of assigning you all a partner. Both of you will have to cooperate and take it in turns to care for your baby. That is the trick behind parenting, after all. Stella, already being a proud mother herself, is exempt from the project and will be giving a guest lecture early next week.

When I call your names, you will come forth and take one 'child' out of the basket. Once you've all had your turn, I'd like you to take a while to get to know your partner better and make some agreements on the ways you feel this project should be handled.

We could either find temporary housing to make the project more realistic or devote one person to taking care of it during the night and making sure it stays at their place.

[She gives him a look that clearly says she favours the first option because she's not sure she wants him in her apartment when she's not alone and leaving the egg alone for any time is B.A.D.]

Well my house is pretty big, you could just stay there for the week if you care that much.

[SHRUG. See, he clearly doesn't care that much and thinks nothing of a girl being thrown into the mix there]

That might work the best. [She's scratching out notes on what's going to be necessary to taking care of the egg, schedules, etc.

[Hermione, ordering people's lives? fffff Never!]

[This is him glaring down at those notes. HAruki takes his schoolwork seriously, yes, but-]

Oi, what're you doing?

[She pauses, glances up, and then in the tone of voice that's very much "I'm explaining this to a five-year-old" -]

I'm drawing up a schedule for us.

[He glare right back at the tone of his voice is very much "you're an idiot."]

That's a bit of an overkill, don't you think?

No. I don't. If we're going to keep up with this, we need to have a plan, a schedule to keep. [And she's right back to drawing up schedules.] Do you want day shift, night shift, or alternating?

[Okay this is where Haruki is getting annoyed so he's going to be taking out his pencil there and sigh. Whatever, let's keep the crazy girl humored-]

I've got the Brigade after this, and it's all week, right? It wouldn't be practical to take it to meetings or what have you, so I guess I'll take the night. That brings the question as to if you wanna bring the thing to schol or not.

[She's going to consider this a personal victory.]

I'll take day, then. [She taps her pencil against her chin.] And I suppose I could take it to school, but I'll have to be careful about how I transport it. [And she mutters a little more on that subject.] I'll just have to tell the Welcome Center and library that I can't go in to work this week. I'm sure they'll understand.

[...Wait-] You're skirting jobs over a school assignment? Just take it with, it's not like you're so stupid as to up and drop it on the way there.

[She just gives you a look.] I'm more worried about temperature than dropping it.

[This is her getting a look right back]

There's plenty of people here could could probably magic up a temperature-regulated blanket or something.

[Well, fine, if you want to cheat.]

I'll conjure one, then, and we won't even have to worry about me coming over to your house unless it's to pass off control of the egg.

[That way they don't have to see each other more than a few seconds a day. Not that she's particularly happy with the idea of leaving the egg alone with him but hey if she's going to get THAT obsessive over it, she may as well take both shifts...]

[WAIT- Wait.../INSTANT INTEREST]

You can do that?

[Somehow, he was not aware of her being a witch. The thought had not crossed in mind, in all due honesty. If she outright said it in the thread they may or may not have had before pretend I suck. :C]

[Have a slight eyeroll.]

Yes, I can. Since magical abilities in general are dampened here, I may or may not be able to do it easily, but I have the ability. [She's not going to give you the satisfaction of seeing it til you ask C: She's so nice.]

[I don't think they got to that topic if they did talk so let's just say no for now xD]

[He grunts there and then=] Yeah, then you might as well do it. I mean if we're gunna be parents you might as well give the kid the best fighting chance.

Of course.

[So she pulls out her wand and after a minute's muttering and waving, manages to conjure up a nice thermal blanket, which she proceeds to wrap around the egg. It makes it look a bit like a tiny kitten or something, but it's kinda cute that way.]

There. That ought to help it. I don't think there's anything else to worry with, do you?
