~ 20 [action]

Now, I'd like to announce our new school project. You will be graded for this, of course, but most of all it is a learning experience. All the practical knowledge you gain may very well be put to use in the future. You see...

[She reaches down to pick up a small basket, placing it on the desk before her. What's inside the basket, you wonder? It's eggs. A lot of them. They aren't boiled or anything of the sort.]

For an entire week, you all will be proud parents. These [she indicates the eggs again.] will be your frail, loved children. You may name them, dress them or even try to feed them. As long as your child is still in one piece next Thursday, you pass the project. Of course, one can never become a parent on their own, which is why I've taken the liberty of assigning you all a partner. Both of you will have to cooperate and take it in turns to care for your baby. That is the trick behind parenting, after all. Stella, already being a proud mother herself, is exempt from the project and will be giving a guest lecture early next week.

When I call your names, you will come forth and take one 'child' out of the basket. Once you've all had your turn, I'd like you to take a while to get to know your partner better and make some agreements on the ways you feel this project should be handled.

[And he shrugs. Formality was never really his thing.]

No need to be so formal. Just call me Riku.

[With that out of the way, it did seem sensible to start figuring out how to handle the project, so...]

So, how exactly should we do this?

[identity profile] bitterhopes.livejournal.com 2009-10-15 07:25 pm (UTC)(link)
... I apologize, but we have only just met. It would be improper for me to refer to you by only your first name. [Sorry, it'll take a little more than that to wear her out of that habit.]

There are three options open to us, I suppose. We could come up with a schedule, and care for it by turn; we could devise some method to care for it collaboratively; or we could spend some of the time caring for it separately, and part of it collaboratively. [She shrugs.] ... regardless of what we decide, I do not think it would be out of place to find some sort of small, lined box or basket for it. If you have the time, we could go to the shops and find one after class.

If you say so, but it's not too big of a deal.

[He takes a moment to think over these options. Hrm...]

Taking turns might be the easiest, and as for a basket, that's not a bad idea.

I believe it would be easiest to be a caretaker for a day and then trade off while we are at class. Do you have any objections?

That would be most like a cradle. [She gives the eggbaby a thoughtful look.] I suppose it would be a little... cruel to keep a "child" up in a box.

[identity profile] stilldontgotit.livejournal.com 2009-10-16 01:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Nah, that works for me.

[... A cradle.]

"Child" or not, it's still an egg. What's really important is keeping it in one piece.

[identity profile] bitterhopes.livejournal.com 2009-10-16 05:47 pm (UTC)(link)
... true. [Way to squish the vague girly feelings she was feeling about the project, Riku.] Although the assignment is to treat them as children, we have not been asked to keep a record of our activities. The only way to fail the assignment is to break the egg.

[identity profile] stilldontgotit.livejournal.com 2009-10-16 06:33 pm (UTC)(link)
[He's good at that. c: Riku's not really enthusiastic about that kind of thing.]

So what we should probably do is find something that'll keep it in one piece. Maybe use something as padding.

Perhaps some cotton, covered by a piece of cloth? A smaller container might be a help in keeping it from moving as well.

But how small are we talking?
